What a long strange trip it's been

This week for the rainbow scrap challange at so scrappy http://superscrappy.blogspot.com/2014/02/last-pink-saturday.html?m=1
I made a pink scrappy trip block

Well I must have liked it cause I made 3 more
All featuring at least a little pink

I also squared up my HSTs for my" love is like a butterfly" quilt

And here they are all packed up with their blue brothers

Happy quilting!

Irene part deux

This week I finished up my second set of 5 blocks for the goodnight Irene sew along being hosted by Terry's treasures

I did another of 16 patches as I haven't gotten my background fabric purchased yet... although I'm thinking a buttery yellow is what I'll go with.

This quilt is going to be called "Custard and Strawberry" because I can't look at
This fabric line and not think of Strawberry Shortcake

A horse of a different colour

Well this week I am still working with pink as it is this month's colour for the rainbow scrap challange  over at so scrappy. I've finished up my lighter pink block for the "charming rainbow" quilt

I've also been working this week on a birthday present for my mum. I'm about 2/3rds of the way done I'd guess.
She loves carosel horses so what better to aplique on top of a truly terribly pieced top I started about 12 years ago (yep 12!) I used my "light box" to trace the design
I've used heat and bond to adhere the fabric and then machine stitched around all my shapes adding some decorative stitching as I went. I'm pretty much in love with it, here's hoping my mum feels the same. :)

And that's about it for projects this week as I spent much of the time I would have been sewing cleaning and organizing my sewing room
Fabrics are sorted by colour too!
And to top it all of this week was my 30th birthday and I received a scratch made pie( banana creme) from my mum, who's always been more of a cake from hyvee sort of person, it was awesome!
Happy quilting

Week in review

This week the new colour came out in the rainbow scrap challenge for February… it's pink (for a brief glorious moment I thought it was purple). So I started on some HSTs for "love is like a butterfly".

I got them all chain pieced and pressed so just the trimming is left.

I used EQ5 to make a layout for my "charming rainbow" quilt so I could get an idea of where I wanted the star to be in each block I came up with this

Using this plan I laid out my pink charms for the lighter pink block; no sewing on that one yet though.

This week I also started on a Goodnight Irene SAL put on by Terry's Treasures I drew up a plan (again on EQ5)

The monthly goal was five blocks and because I'm trying not to by fabric for a while I'm only working on the 16 patches for now

This fabric line is called scrumptious and reminds me so much of Strawberry Shortcake so the quilt will be called "Custard and Strawberry" if you get this you might be a child of the eighties too ;)

Last but not least I got the quilting done for "Jack's Jack" now it just needs binding. I'm planning on using a red white and blue stripe
