Tutorial For Newbee quilt bee hive #8 April

The block I've chosen is called "Road to Oklahoma" this one will be done in 4 colours and be a 12" finished block size:

The first step is to gather the fabrics,

please use 1 white or white on white fabric (A) and 3 "rainbow" coloured fabrics (B,C, and D)

Secondly cut your fabrics

From fabric A cut a strip 3.5" x 15"

From Fabric B cut another 3.5" x 15" strip

From fabric B cut (2) 3.5" squares

Also from fabric B cut (2) 4.5" squares

From fabrics C and D cut (1) 4.5" square each

Also from fabrics C and D cut (1) 3.5" square each

You should have these pieces now

Sew the 2 strips together and then sub-cut into (4) 3.5" sections

Sew the sections together into (2)           4-patch units and set

Next sew your half square triangles
Place one of your larger squares of fabric B on top of the larger square fabric C and mark a diagonal line from corner to corner. Sew 1/4" on either side of the line cut down the center, on the marked line. then press and trim down to 3.5" the HSTs and repeat with the other square and fabric D

Sew these together with the 3.5" squares to form the star points

Join the 4 sections making sure the white chain runs along the block

Admire your work! You did an awesome job!

Time for a bucket list

Quite a few people are posting quilty bucket lists over at the tilted quilt and i thought i'd join in and think about what quilts i'd really love to make.

first is Jen Kingwell's "gypsy wife" quilt

secondly is a McKenna Ryan quilt. I absolutely love "dog park"

third I'd love to make a road to Oklahoma quilt but have it be very colourful almost a rainbow version

Head on over and see what's on other people's lists and maybe plan you own!

Teal triangles

This week I was working on HSTs for my "love is like a butterfly" quilt for the rainbow scrap challenge at the so scrappy blog

Here they are in the middle of being pressed but not yet trimmed.

I was also working on some teal triangles this week for a center for a round robin quilt. I made mine using a paper piecing pattern.

Happy quilting!

A pair of blocks and a pair of labs

Thought I'd start out showing the quilt I made for Doll Quilters Monthly for February as it was received by my partner. It's called "All you need is..."

I had a really hard time with the theme which was love letters until my dad came up with using this statue. See it helps to surround yourself with clever people. ;)

This week So Scrapy  unvailed March's colour for the rainbow scrap challenge. Much to my excitement because it's teal/ aqua!   I got started straight away on this one because I've tons of it (no real surprise to me).

I got some charms together for my "charming rainbow" quilt and discovered some charms reading more blue and some more green so I split them up and made 2 blocks

And here they are together as they will be in the quilt

And today my sewing room is filled with lazy dogs… it's a cold and gloomy day here in Omaha
